The Florida Department of Transportation is currently working on a $58 million dollar project to extend State Road 56. The project will take the road east from its current end at Meadow Point Blvd. When completed (est 2020) State Road 56 will go all the way to US Highway 301 in Zephyrhills.
The six mile project will include a ten foot wide multi-use trail on the south side of the road. It will also include a five foot wide sidewalk on the north side and seven foot wide bike lanes in each direction on the shoulder. A new stoplight will be installed at Morris Bridge Road and State Road 56. Another will be installed at US301 and State Road 56.
As of now, the road is projected to be open to traffic in 2020.
When complete, the new four lane road will provide another much needed transportation connection between Wesley Chapel and Zephyrhills and Interstate 75.
