Wiregrass High Student Arrested for Child Pornography

From ABC News: WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. – After taking a picture of two teens involved in a sex act and sharing the image with others, a 15-year-old girl was arrested, accused of possession of child pornography.

“This is a very serious offense, and could have negative consequences the rest of this student’s life,” said Wiregrass Ranch High School principal Robyn White as she recorded an automated phone message that was sent to parents Tuesday.

The message let parents know that a student at the high school in Wesley Chapel was arrested for what is a 3rd-degree felony.

“I want to urge parents to monitor their students’ phones and internet activity to protect them from similar charges,” White went on to say.

The 15-year-old female student, who we are not identifying because she is a juvenile, is accused of taking a picture of two other teens engaged in a sexual act, then months later after a falling out, authorities said, she maliciously spread the photograph.

“I know she did it to hurt her,” said Pasco Sheriff’s office detective William Lindsey.

Authorities say it’s illegal to take pictures of underage kids involved in any sex act.  It’s also illegal just to have them on your phone, even if the images are of yourself.

“The students didn’t necessarily realize what they were doing was that severe.  And the parents were absolutely astounded by the fact that their child was being arrested,” said Lindsey.

The sheriff’s office is also set to arrest another student from Wiregrass Ranch.  An 18-year-old they say took the picture and posted it on Twitter.
